Opening a Med Spa Step-by-Step

Opening any business is an exciting moment in your life.  There’s so much to think about and so much to do.

But opening a med spa is a horse of a different color.  It’s a highly specialized business and with that specialization comes planning which takes into consideration the needs of the sector and its clientele.

That’s why we’ve put together this brief primer on opening a med spa step-by-step.  Specifically, we’re going to cover your physical plant and its marketing needs.  We want to ensure that you get off to the best possible start.  These two crucial elements of opening a med spa require careful planning so you can get it right the first time.

Relaxing.  Sophisticated.  Sterile.

The words “medical spa” evoke a certain environment.  It’s medical.  It’s a spa.  So, how do you balance the two?

The ideal med spa should immediately place guests at ease.  When they come in the front door, they should know that they’ve come to the right place.  That starts in the reception area.

A well-lit reception area, staffed by professional, efficient and friendly people should have an open feel that conveys comfort and professionalism, simultaneously.  Lighting is important here.  Guests are not in the treatment room, so lighting needs to reflect welcome, offering an ambiance of tranquility.

When transitioning to the treatment rooms, lighting should subtly shift to reflect the sterile nature of the environment guests are entering.  While it’s important that your guests feel comfortable, it’s also crucial that the message they receive is one that assures them your facility is sterile and safe.

Retail Up Front

Every quality med spa carries a complete line of aesthetics products which supports the total success of treatments, once your guests go home.  How you market these is up to you, but they’re an important facet of running a high-end med spa.

Supportive cosmetics and cosmetics geared to improving skin quality should be displayed thoughtfully, drawing the attention of your guests as they enter and as they proceed to the check out.  Your technicians should be describing treatment items relevant to the therapy that’s been offered to prepare guests to consider their options.

Online Presence – Critical

The opening of your med spa should be preceded by a robust social media campaign.  This serves to disseminate the news that you’re there.  Otherwise, how will people find you?

Platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram/Pinterest and Snapchat drive traffic to your website and create buzz, information about your opening and special offers for your new clients.

Your website should be in place at least 9 months prior to your opening.  This gives you enough time to refine your online presence, build a mailing list through specific calls to action and draw customers to your door.
